The city-based Peerless Hospital, a part of the Peerless Group, is looking to invest close to ₹300 crore over the next three years for creation of new capacity and upgradation of its existing facility.

According to Sujit Purkayastha, Managing Director, Peerless Hospital, plans are afoot to set up a separate cancer and transplant unit within the existing campus. It also plans to add 200 beds to its existing capacity of 400 beds.

While a portion of the investment will be through internal accruals, it will also look for external capital support to fund its growth needs.

“Work (on construction of a new building) is likely to commence early next year, it should be ready in the next two-three years," Purkayastha told newspersons at a press conference here.

There is a huge gap between demand and supply of healthcare services and that calls for not just addition of infrastructure but also requires trained and skilled manpower, he said.

Medical college

Peerless Hospital is keen on setting up a medical college to provide medical education to aspiring candidates and train doctors and nurses.

“This (setting up a medical college) is something we aspire for, we have expressed our intention to the State government. But there has been no discussion on this front,” he said, adding that there were several bottlenecks and ‘obstructions’ in setting up of medical colleges by private entities.

The hospital, which has completed 25 years of operations, is planning to felicitate notable personalities from the field of healthcare, medical professionals from rural Bengal and university toppers from MBBS examination.
