The greenbelt at Dr Shivarama Karantha Pilikula Nisarga Dhama on the outskirts of Mangaluru will be inaugurated on October 8. Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd (MRPL) has developed the greenbelt on 20 acres of land at Pilikula. A press release from Dr Shivarama Karantha Pilikula Nisarga Dhama Society said the greenbelt has around 2,000 plant species from the Western Ghat region and around 1,000 medicinal plants. To feed various animals at Pilikula zoo, plants and vegetables are also grown in this greenbelt. MRPL will also take up greenbelt development on another 30 acres of land in the second stage, it said.
