In view of various issues arising out of the stabilisation of the unified portal for employers with UAN-based simplified electronic challan-cum-return filing system, remittance for December 2016 can be paid by January 20, 2017, a release by the Labour Ministry said on Friday.

“It has been noticed that due to increased traffic on the portal, many employers have faced some difficulty in upfront allotment of UAN, connectivity/ login issues, website slowing down and also unfamiliarity of the new processes. The statutory dues are to be paid by the 15th of every month,” the release added.

The portal was launched by the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) on December 23, 2016, to help in submission of UAN-based returns and challans.

As per the online complaint board of the National Consumer Complaints Forum, the UAN portal, too, has been inviting complaints, such as access problems, difficulty in logging in and uploading passbook.

For instance, one reddykr writes in January 2017: “The UAN portal site is down since a long time and the help desk number is also not working. What is the issue and why isn't anyone working on it? Is our hard earned money saved in PF account going to be blocked by the government under some pretext.”
