The Telangana State Electricity Regulatory Commission has retained the retail supply tariffs determined for the current fiscal for the next financial year (2018-19).

In the retail Supply Tariff Order for FY 2018-19, the regulator has retained the same tariffs except for High Tension Lift Irrigation category.

While the two distribution companies have projected a revenue deficit of ₹9,771 crore for the next fiscal, the Commission has determined a deficit of ₹5,940 crore. As against this requirement, the State government informed it of its budgetary provision of ₹4,984 crore for reimbursement towards agriculture and allied subsidy. The regulator has decided to examine the balance amount at appropriate time.

The Commission has retained the retail supply tariffs determined for this financial year except for certain consumer categories. These include HY Lift Irrigation, HT Resco at 11 kV voltage level, poultry farms under LT and HT Categories.

It observed that the Telangana government was silent on the release of additional subsidy of ₹32.71 crore for retaining the existing concession of ₹2 per unit for poultry farms. If the government intends to extend the concession of ₹2 a unit to poultry farms, the same would be directly provided to the distribution companies.

The new tariffs will come into effect on April 1.

It also ordered that temporary supply for low tension and high tension consumers can be given initially for a period of up to a year as per the tariff applicable under the temporary supply category. After one year, the consumer is at liberty to seek further extension.
