Congress president Rahul Gandhi said on Thursday that attempts are being made to “cover-up” the details of the Rafale deal from media. He alleged that the ongoing visit by Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to France is part of the “cover-up” attempt.

Attacks Defence Minister

He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is silent on the Rafale deal. “ Nirmala Sitharaman has gone to France. What is the emergency that the Defence Minister of the country had to visit the factory of Dassault Aviation?” asked the Amethi MP.

“They are running here and there to prevent corruption charges. But the entire country knows that Modi handed over ₹30000 crore contract to Anil Ambani. That money belonged to the people of the country and to the Air Force,” he added.

He said that former president of France, Francois Hollande; and Chief Operating Officer of Dassault, Loïk Segalen, have accused Modi of corruption. “They both said the Prime Minister of India decided to give this contract to Anil Ambani.

“Our demand is a JPC probe but the Centre has denied it,” Gandhi added. On Sharad Pawargiving a clean chit to Modi, he said, “Pawar has clearly said he is being misquoted.”
