As many as 27 urban bodies, including municipal corporations and urban development authorities, have put in place online building plan sanctions, the Minister of State for Urban Development, Babul Supriyo, said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
The initiative will help in reducing the time taken for according necessary approvals.
At present, Maharashtra leads the list with 7 of its urban bodies going online followed by Kerala with five.
Online building plan sanctions have been put in place by municipal corporations in Greater Mumbai, New Delhi Municipal Council and Municipal Corporation of South Delhi, Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, Coimbatore, Indore, Nagpur, Solapur, Amravati, Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Kochi, Thrissur, Kozhikode, Ujjain, Gwalior, Ulhasnagar, Hubil-Dharwad and Lavasa.
The development authorities of New Town Kolkata Development Authority, Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority, Haryana Urban Development Authority, Bhubaneswar Development Authority, Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority and Jaipur Development Authority have also started the online mechanism, the statement added.
