Shashi Tharoor, MP, has called upon Credai to focus on investing in disaster surviving methods and avoid construction on ecologically fragile areas.

The Gujarat model of reconstruction after the 2001 earthquake is an excellent model to be adopted for the reconstruction of Kerala. “We should learn from Gujarat and follow the methods implemented there,” he said while inaugurating the 4th State Conference of Credai Kerala.

Kerala at present needs socially committed and sustainable model of construction. But sustainable model of construction will not happen when deforestation and illegal constructions are damaging the environment. “We need more expertise in building homes that can resist and survive landslides,” he added.

Prefab construction model, which is a great success in foreign countries, can be implemented in Kerala to create light and durable buildings. Healthy building ideas can be made through these innovations and technologies. A wide range of opportunity can be opened in this field as these construction methods reduce harmful impact on ecology, he said.

Customers are expecting best values for their money. Artificial intelligence and new technologies can be used to satisfy the needs of the customers and thus they can be given unlimited services, he added.
