Karnataka unit of Credai wants to see the State housing surplus by 2020, according to its office-bearers.

Addressing presspersons here on Tuesday, P.M.A. Razak, president of Credai (Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India), Mangalore chapter, said that the Statecon 2012, which will be hosted in Mangalore on August 25, will dwell upon this issue.

The Credai wants to see that people in low-income group and from economically weaker sections get housing facility by 2020. To achieve this, there is a need for both government and private players to work together, he said.

To a query on the strategy to make Karnataka housing surplus by 2020, K.C. Naik, chairman of Statecon 2012, said that such an initiative has been made in Gujarat. In that State, the government acquires land and provides infrastructure in remote areas.

With this, the cost of land will be affordable. This will help provide housing facility to the people in low-income group and from economically weaker sections.

He said Credai Karnataka, in association with the State government, wants to follow the same model in the State.

Naik said that Mangalore chapter of Credai will host the State-level convention of Credai – Statecon 2012 – on August 25 in Mangalore.

Razak said that nearly 1,500 delegates from all over the State are likely to participate in this convention. There will be 45 stalls at the convention.

Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar will inaugurate Statecon 2012, and Deputy Chief Minister K.S. Eshwarappa will inaugurate the property exhibition on the occasion.

Union Minister for Urban Development Kamal Nath will be the chief guest for the valedictory session on that day, he added.
