The promoters of the 70-acre SPR City, Binny Mills, have started seeking expressions of interest for a 5,000-shop wholesale market complex coming up at the township project.

Branded the Market of India, the developers hope to spread the concept to multiple towns and cities.

For now the project coming up in North Chennai, on the Binny Mills grounds, will be formally launched along with the residential segment in the next five to six months, according to Navin Ranka, Director, SPR.

The project, a joint venture between the SPR Group and Binny Ltd, will feature the proposed, professionally managed, wholesale market as a key component to tap the advantage of the location. It is within a few kilometres of trade hubs like Sowcarpet, Purasawakkam and Choolai where over 50,000 traders are based, said Ranka.

It will offer 11 markets of 4-8 acres each, truck terminals, 11 acres of warehousing, parking for 5,000 cars, 10,000 two wheelers, modern logistics facilities and ancillary services.

Over 5,000 shops ranging from a couple of hundred sq ft to 3,500 sq ft priced from about ₹25 lakh to ₹4 crore.

The markets will be named after traditional market streets elsewhere in the city, he said.

SPR City will have over 2,000 apartments apart from office space, school, multiplex making it one of the largest township of its kind within the heart of the city, he said.
