Raising concern over the living conditions of construction workers, Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri on Wednesday urged builders to provide them with basic facilities so that they can live a dignified life.
Speaking after the release of a commemorative stamp on the occasion of 25 years of the Indian Buildings Congress (IBC), Puri said workers should be provided with facilities for cooking and sanitation at construction sites under the Contract Labour Act. The Act is often not taken into consideration, which is unacceptable, he added.
Noting that IBC aimed at improving the built environment, he said the living environment of workers at construction sites was equally important.
