The Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA) will take up work on the Haritha housing project after obtaining permission from the Government, according to a press release issued here on Friday. The major housing project taken up in collaboration with the Singapore company Jurong was stalled due to a litigation with the contractor.

Mr K. Sashidhar, the Vice-Chairman, VUDA, wrote a letter to the State Government seeking permission to resume the work as soon as possible as the legal dispute came to an end. The project was launched by the VUDA in 20 acres at Madhurawada with 710 apartment units.

However, due to a dispute raised by the construction contractor, Jurong, the works were stalled and the authority had issued a termination notice. The contractor challenged the decision of the VUDA legally, seeking a direction from the court to prevent entrusting the construction work to any third party. The court dismissed the petitions filed by the contractor. The path is now cleared for resumption of work.

Mr Sashidhar intends to complete the work within a year after resumption of work and is drawing up an action plan for the purpose, adds the press release. The allottees will have to pay the fifth instalment due before the end of August and the last and sixth instalment before January 31.

The VUDA is taking up another housing project at Gandigundam. Individual houses will be permitted in plots of 85 square yards each. The cost of each plot and the allotment guidelines are yet to be finalised.

Plantation

The VUDA has also instructed the industries participating in the Green Visakha project to fulfil targets for plantation of 70 lakh plants in the current year.

This project was launched with the initiative of 21 industries such as the Visakhapatnam port, the steel plant, the NTPC-Simhadri thermal project, Coromandel and others, to develop a strong green shield to the city by planting 40 lakh plants within the next five years. The participating industries are being given technical support.
