To improve participation of women in a sector that is perceived as male-dominated, the Real Estate Management Institute (REMI) has launched a slew of women-focused educational programmes, under its initiative ‘REMIRisers’.
The institute is conducting five specially-curated entrepreneurial and skilling courses, starting in May, through which it intends to empower women.
The courses are: ‘Broker Entrepreneurship for Women’, ‘Vaastu Consulting for Women’, ‘Effective Designing of Homes’, ‘Women Home Buyers’ and ‘Facilities Management/Asset Management for Women’.
Certification
“We see a vast participation by men in the real estate sector, but it needs higher participation of women too who are key contributors to GDP and employment. We aim to encourage women across socio-economic segments to hone their skills and take advantage of various entrepreneurial and professional opportunities this sector has to offer,” Shubika Bilkha, Director at REMI, told BusinessLine .
“The course will mobilise women who do broking as a part-time job and certify them under the RERA regime,” she said.
Course details
The courses will focus on broker entrepreneurship, technical and business skills (required in RERA era) among others. The courses, which admit about 50-70 women, will be conducted by internal faculties and visiting experts, while the medium of education would be English and Hindi.
The fee for the courses — which is a combination of workshops and seminars — range from ₹2,500 to ₹10,000.
REMI — which is also looking to rope in non-governmental organisations (NGOs), real estate firms and industry bodies among others — will commence courses first in Mumbai and later in Ahmedabad.
“More than 50 per cent of home buying decisions are taken by women and in the management and maintenance of homes. However, they are still under-represented in the sector,” Bilkha added.
