Telangana Legislature Council Chairman Swamy Goud suffered an eye injury when a headphone hurled by Cong (I) legislator Komatireddy Venkat Reddy struck his right eye on Monday.

Acrimonious scenes were witnessed in the Assembly as Governor E S L Narasimhan began his address to the joint session of the House. Congress members rushed to the well to protest against the anti-farmer policies of the TRS government.

They tore and hurled the copies of his speech. Venkat Reddy hurled his headphones that hit Swamy Goud, who was taken to the Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital for treatment.

Home Minister Naini Narasimha Reddy and Legislative Affairs Minister T Harish Rao have condemned the attack.

In his speech, the Governor related the developmental and welfare schemes being implemented by the State government.

He said works on the Kaleshwaram project were in full swing. The government was also working on Mission Bagiradha, which was aimed at providing drinking water to all households in the State. “About 23 lakh pumpsets and lift irrigation schemes are getting free power for 24 hours from January 1, 2018,” he said.

The first phase of the Hyderabad Metro Rail was completed and a stretch of 30 km was opened for public transport.

Budget session

Finance Minister Etala Rajender will present the Budget for 2018-19 on March 15. The Budget session will last till March 27.

“The State clocked an average annual growth of 8.6 per cent of Gross State Domestic Product in the three-year period from 2014-15 to 2016-17, which is much higher than the national average of 7.5 per cent,” the Governor said in his speech. The per capita income of Telangana is estimated to be ₹1.54 lakh during 2016-17 as against the national per capita income of ₹1.03 lakh.
