The disposal of seized contraband yielded revenue of ₹5.16 crore for the Commissionerate of Customs in Mangaluru during the current financial year.

Quoting M Subramanyam, Commissioner of Customs, Mangaluru, a press release said here that the commissionerate has started air intelligence unit for airport and special intelligence and investigation branch for sea port.

57 cases

So far during the current financial year, 57 cases involving ₹5.41 crore have been detected. Of them, 62 per cent were of gold seizures.

The disposal of seized contraband yielded revenue of ₹5.16 crore during the current fiscal. The commissionerate has realized total revenue of ₹2,022 crore up to first fortnight of January as against the target of ₹2,300 crore for the current financial year, he said.

Giving details about the facilitation at Mangaluru, he said 93 per cent of export consignments and 64 per cent of import consignments were facilitated without any examination and assessment.

On passenger facilitation, he said over 97.76 per cent passengers opted for green channel at the airport. The online Customs guide for international passengers has been found to be useful by passengers and travel agencies in this regard.

Non-intrusive techniques

The department is increasingly adopting non-intrusive techniques to further improve facilitation using the available data and passenger profiling techniques, he said.

On the facilitation extended during the transition to GST regime, the Commissioner said several interactions were held to sensitise the trade about the new requirements.

The trade was impressed upon to ensure the information furnished in GST returns and Customs documents is identical for speedy refund sanctions, he added.
