The Government has given site clearance for the setting up of a greenfield airport at Purander in Pune.
The Government is also keen that the existing airport in Pune not be closed when the greenfield airport becomes operational. One of the Government’s conditions is that the Maharashtra Airport Development Company Ltd (MADC), the agency executing the project, will not shut down the existing Pune airport.
“It will accordingly take up the matter with Ministry of Defence and will try to make both the airports available for civil use,” the Ministry of Civil Aviation said in a statement.
Besides, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has also given ‘in-principle’ approval for setting up of an airport in Jewar in Uttar Pradesh.
Jewar airport
The Civil Aviation Ministry had granted site clearance to the Noida International Greenfield Airport in July last year for Jewar airport. The Uttar Pradesh government appointed Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) as the implementing agency on its behalf in October 2017. YEIDA obtained the No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Ministry of Defence in January this year.
With the ministry’s approval today YEIDA has got in-principle approval for setting up of the Noida International Greenfield Airport on the North of Jewar village, Uttar Pradesh, the government said in a statement.
