Bringing people back to the cricket ground and making cricket more competitive would be a major focus area for the International Cricket Council, said N Srinivasan, Chairman ICC.

One of the big challenges that cricket faces today is that there are not many people watching the game in many of the test playing countries. Cricket should be viable not only in India, England and Australia, but in all the test playing countries, he said at his felicitation on becoming Chairman of the Council.

“Passion for cricket”

“Apart from the passion for cricket, the will to succeed in a highly competitive sport took me to the post,” he said. “There was tremendous support from members of BCCI. Everybody must like you, people in the organisation and sports must like you and believe in you. Ultimately, they must trust you. If you are straight and transparent, then it is possible,” he said at the event, jointly organised by the Madras Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Madras Management Association.

Collective focus

In the interest of world cricket, the focus has to be not only on cricket but everything that surrounds the game. This includes creating infrastructure to ensure that spectators have a pleasant experience. These are some of the aspects the ICC will concentrate on going forward.

A Vellayan, Executive Chairman, Murugappa Group, Gopal Srinivasan of TVS Capital and VVS Laxman, former Indian cricketer felicitated Srinivasan.
