Wimbledon winner Andy Murray will make his third appearance at the Hopman Cup mixed team event from January 4-10, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

The world number nine Scot will team with Heather Watson at the eight-nation event.

Murray played for Britain in 2010 and 2011 in Perth, reaching the team final in his first appearance but losing to Spain.

Also due to highlight January’s edition are Australia’s Nick Kyrgios, the teenaged Wimbledon quarter-finalist, who will team up with Perth’s Casey Dellacqua for the hosts.

Murray won Wimbledon in 2013 and is the reigning Olympic champion after the London 2012 games. He has won 28 ATP titles.

“I find [the Hopman Cup] very good preparation for the Australian Open. The organisers look after everyone extremely well there,” said Murray in a statement, “Just getting there early you get at least three singles matches, you get the mixed doubles as well which is good fun, it sharpens up the net game.

“Now that it’s outdoors too, it’s absolutely perfect, so I’m looking forward to it,” said the former world number two.

Kyrgios will make his debut for Australia in Perth as the hosts try to win the title for the first time in more than a decade and a half.

Other teams to complete the field are expected to be confirmed over the coming months.
