The Jharkhand State Cricket Association has suspended 33 Under-16 cricketers for two years for producing fake age certificates.

The BCCI’s (Board of Control for Cricket in India) doctors committee verified the age of 52 cricketers in the Under-16 category but only 19 passed the test, while 33 others were found to be over-aged, Convenor of the Tournament Committee Asim Kumar Singh said.

The Tournament Committee wanted to suspend the cricketers for five years, but reduced it to two years considering their career, Singh, who is also the Assistant Secretary of JSCA, said.

The cricketers had been warned many times to produce the right age certificate, but they did not pay any heed to the directive.

Singh said BCCI has recognised certain hospitals in each State to verify the age of cricketers, who are playing in the tournaments organised by BCCI or its affiliated associations.
