In response to an appeal from The Hindu Group, readers have continued to contribute relief supplies to the citizens of Chennai. Today, 15,000 people affected by the floods were provided supplies. “We created and distributed 2,000 kits for families — each containing two saris, a set of men’s clothes, water bottles, biscuits and bread”, says Bharathi Tamizhan, who is leading the on-ground efforts of Chennai Rising. “70 volunteers, including the coast guard and students of Ambedkar Law College, reached out to the families on the OMR stretch.” Since the Chennai Rising appeal was announced, 40 tonnes of supplies have been sent in by readers across Tamil Nadu, Bengaluru and Chennai. There has been an overwhelming response from readers to volunteer their time for sorting and distributing supplies at the flood-affected areas.
To contribute supplies Plastic sleeping mats, blankets, new clothes (readymade garments and innerwear for all ages), mosquito repellants/nets/coils, bedsheets, pillows and covers, towels, utensils, handwashing and sanitizing supplies.
Drop off the supplies at the nearest KPN office, or at the collection centre adjacent to the Chepauk stadium (Pattabhiraman gate) opposite to the State Guesthouse and at the new Ispahani building adjacent to The Hindu Tamil office on Mount Road.
