Amid the row over UGC issuing an advisory to universities and educational institutions to celebrate September 29 as ‘Surgical Strike Day’, Human Resource Development Minster, Prakash Javadekar, on Friday said there was no politics behind the decision.
“On September 29 (second anniversary of surgical strike), we have asked colleges, those who want to, can arrange a lecture by ex-army officers, who can tell students how the surgical strike was conducted,” said Javadekar. He added, we have not mandated anything, there is no politics only patriotism.
Meanwhile, Jawaharlal Nehru University’s Vice-Chancellor, M Jagadesh Kumar, on Friday said the university would celebrate the Surgical Strike Day next week.
Senior Congress leader, Kapil Sibal, on the UGC circular tweeted, “UGC directs VCs of all universities to celebrate 29th September as Surgical Strike Day. Is this meant to educate or to serve BJP’s political ends ?”
