The Indian Institute of Management – Ahmedabad (IIM-A) today announced a special executive education programme for India’s senior most I-T officials in partnership with the Massachusetts, USA-based Harvard Business School (HBS).

The Executive Education committees of the IIM-A and HBS have 'specially-designed' a four-week programme for I-T officials involving key aspects of leadership development, making the enforcement effective and tough while being respectful to the citizens at the same time.

Under the programme, officials in the ranks of principal chief commissioner and chief commissioner of the Department of Income Tax will spend two weeks at the IIM-A campus and two weeks at HBS campus. The fee structure of the programme has been kept confidential.

The programme will begin by the end of July with a batch of 30 top I-T sleuths. Further, the premiere institute of the country is also aiming to engage with other public sector organisations and agencies to impart knowledge and expertise on the leadership and management. The Indian Economic Services (IES) and Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) are among them.

“As a management institution, we are committed to working with, and learning from, practitioners in a range of sectors, including the public sector… Our senior Government officials are confronted with gargantuan challenges of implementation that require the best of leadership and change management skills,” IIM-A Director, Ashish Nanda told the media here.

“The objective of the program is to provide DIT leaders with perspective, skills, and insights related to the leadership of a public enterprise, change management in a large organisation, and becoming more citizen-centric,” he added.

The institute has been taking measures to widen the net of Executive Education Programs and particularly reach out to the public sector. “This new initiative is a step in that direction. In the past three months we have received 35 requests from public sector and 43 from private sector for conducting similar programmes,” said Abraham Koshy, chair - Executive Education at IIM-A.

“Public sector leaders seek to find the right balance between responsiveness and policy enforcement in terms of engaging with the public. In this program, we will explore the appropriate balance between service orientation and policy implementation, and discuss ways to achieve that balance,” said Ajay Pandey, Dean-Programs, IIMA.
