Tirupur Exporters Association has appealed to the Tamil Nadu government to make Tirupur the headquarters of the proposed territorial division of commercial taxes.

In a statement issued here today, TEA President Raja M Shanmugam said the government should consider choosing Tirupur instead of Erode, taking into consideration the current and future business potential of the knitwear export cluster.

The turnover of the cluster is around ₹42,000 crore with a target of achieving ₹1 lakh crore by 2022. MSMEs account for a major chunk of the business. Spinning mills are also located around Palladam and Tirupur area. The number of registered dealers is high in Tirupur compared with Erode or Karur, he said.
