The Telangana government will soon construct six air strips in Peddapally, Mahaboobnagar, Nizamabad, Adilabad, Kothagudem and Warangal districts.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has said that the aviation industry in the State grew significantly in the last four years, with the GMR International Airport registering impressive growth rates.
“The number of flights it handled daily almost doubled to 506 in 2018 from 256 in 2014. The passenger traffic more than doubled to 18 million in 2018 from 8.7 million in 2014. This has proved the sceptics that predicted doom wrong,” he said.
Replying to questions in the State Assembly during discussion on Appropriation Bills on Tuesday, Rao said the State needed more air strips, keeping in view the growing demand.
He said the government would soon launch a universal annual health screening tests for all the people in the State. “We are studying the models of Canada and the United Kingdom. We will soon come out with a scheme. We will update the health records annually,” he said.
The government will also provide spectacles to the needy for free after holding eye tests across the State, he said.
