The GST Council will consider setting up of a National Appellate Tribunal in Delhi at its meeting on Saturday. The proposal recommends three benches of the tribunal to be set up at Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata. Industry has been demanding that an independent judicial member should preside over the functioning of the national GST appellate tribunal to be set up for adjudicating disputes between revenue and taxpayers.The GST Council is also likely to take up reduction in tax rates on host of items with low revenue implications as part of the tax rationalisation exercise.

It is that day of the year when the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress takes out Martyrs’ Day rally every year in Dharmatala area of central Kolkata to pay tribute to the 13 Youth Congress workers, who were allegedly killed in police firing in 1993, when the Left Front government was in power. This year's rally comes close on the heels of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit. Kolkata Metro will deploy additional security forces at different stations to avoid any untoward incident in trains, platforms or station premises during the rush on Saturday.

The new Congress Working Committee will hold its first meeting on Sunday. Rahul Gandhi reconstituted the party's highest decision making body with a blend of young and old leaders. The committee includes 23 members, 19 permanent invitees and 9 special invitees, according to a PTI report. This the first CWC formed by the Congress chief after assuming charge of the party.
