For the second consecutive day today, over 1,000 Covid-19 patients were discharged following treatment in Tamil Nadu. With 1,372 patients discharged, the number of recovered persons from the coronavirus infection increased to 20,705, leaving the number of active cases at 17,659.
On Thursday, the State reported 1,875 positive cases, the fifth consecutive day when over 1,500 positive cases were reported in the State, taking the overall tally to 38,716.
In Chennai alone, 1,406 persons were infected to take the total to 27,398 cases. Chengalpattu reported 127 cases, followed by Tiruvallur with 72, and the balance cases were reported across various other districts, including Kancheepuram, Madurai, Tiruvannamali and Ranipet.
Twenty-three Covid-19 patients died to take the total fatalities to 349.
A total of 16,829 samples were tested today, says a Health Ministry bulletin.
