The time to celebrate changemakers and honour them for making the world a better place has come. These are unsung heroes and through the BusinessLine Changemaker Awards, we aim to bring their good work into the limelight and in the process, inspire more people to do the same.
Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, a changemaker in his own right, will be the chief guest on Friday evening at an event that will see scores of corporate leaders, top bureaucrats, entrepreneurs and those in the social field coming together to applaud the changemakers.
He will felicitate winners across six categories: Changemaker-Social Transformation, Changemaker-Digital Transformation, Changemaker-Financial Transformation, Young Changemaker, Iconic Changemaker and Changemaker of the year.
The awards process began on September 15, 2018, when the nomination window was opened to the public. Over 550 nominations were received, and after multiple rounds of scrutiny and evaluation along with our Knowledge Partners (Ashoka and Deloitte India) and Validation Partner (Niiti Consulting), a final set of nominees was sent to an independent jury to select the winners.
The jury, comprising S Ramadorai, former CEO & MD of TCS (jury chair); Sanjeev Sanyal, Principal Economic Advisor, Ministry of Finance; William Bissell, MD, Fabindia; Pallavi Shroff, Managing Partner, Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas; Debjani Ghosh, President, Nasscom; Gopal Srinivasan, CMD, TVS Capital Funds and Roshni Nadar, ED & CEO, HCL Corporation & Trustee Shiv Nadar Foundation, met mid-December and chose the winners.
Power-packed evening
On Friday, apart from awarding the winners, the event will see some interesting conversations and inspiring talks. Singh will speak about the role of changemakers and the challenges they need to overcome to taste success. He will also unveil the BusinessLine Changemaker Awards special issue, which chronicles the work of the winners.
The evening will also see Raghavan Srinivasan, Editor, The Hindu BusinessLine, in conversation with Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on the ‘Agenda for Change’. This will be followed by Minister for Commerce & Industry and Civil Aviation Suresh Prabhu talking about ‘Transforming Indian Industry’.
Is corporate India doing enough to transform society? A panel discussion on ‘What holds corporates back from becoming true changemakers’ will attempt to answer that question. The panelists include Tanmoy Chakraborty, group government affairs officer, Tata Sons; Rajen Vagadia, Country head, Qualcomm; Kamal Arora, Senior Director, India Government Business, Dell India, and N Venkatram, Head – Deloitte India.
An inspiring talk by a young Changemaker on how ‘anything is possible’ will mark the grand finale of the event, which is powered by Volkswagen.
