Lead the Road, a ‘Transporters Meet’ organised by BusinessLine to highlight various issues related to transporters, is now headed North.

On October 26, the event will be held in the Pink City Jaipur, a major hub of the truck industry, where various stakeholders, including truck operators, officials from the Indian Oil Corporation and YES Bank, will discuss issues and suggest solutions to the problems faced by the sector. The event is presented by Indian Oil Corporation and powered by YES Bank with NewsX as the television partner.

In the backdrop of rising fuel prices, lower freight rates and shortage of drivers, the event assumes significance and provides a platform to discuss these issues. Nearly 60 lakh trucks criss-cross the country carrying goods, including essential commodities, fruits and vegetables. Any disruption in their operations can cripple the economy.

The first in the series of 10 Transporters Meet was held in June at Namakkal, the hub of the trucking industry in Tamil Nadu, followed by the second in the port city of Kochi in July. The third was held in Vijayawada in August. The fourth and fifth editions were held last month in Hyderabad and Pune respectively.

Over 100 representatives, including truck owners, drivers and industry associations participated in each event.

Panel discussion

Presentations apart, the sixth edition in Jaipur will see a panel discussion on the ‘Road Ahead’ for the transport sector.

Panelists include Inder Kumar Chaddha, President, Jaipur Transport Operators Association; Om Prakash Gupta of Professional Automotives, Jaipur; Sanjeev Gupta, Chief Manager (Fleet Marketing), Rajasthan, Indian Oil Corporation, and Anil Menon, National Business Head, Commercial Vehicle Loans, YES Bank. The discussion will look at various issues that trouble the sector and also share best practices and solutions to overcome them.
