TVS Motor Company has launched 125cc scooter Ntorq 125, which the company describes as the first-ever app-enabled performance scooter in the country.

Targeted at youth segment, Ntorq 125, which marks the company’s entry into the 125cc scooter segment, comes with an ex-showroom (New Delhi) price of ₹58,750.

The new model is expected to further strengthen TVS Motor’s position in the scooter segment and help boost its market share. The other major players in the 125cc scooter category are Honda (Grazia) and Suzuki (Access)

“There is a segment that is emerging stronger – young India. The size of the opportunity is about 10 per cent of the market now. This new scooter has been designed keeping them in mind,” said Aniruddha Haldar, Vice-President (Marketing) - Commuter Motorcycles, Scooters and Corporate Brand, at the launch here.

Powered by CVTi-REVV 3-valve engine, Ntorq 125 has been developed on a new platform and comes with TVS SmartXonnect, a bluetooth-enabled technology which is paired to an exclusive Ntorq mobile app that can be downloaded from Google Play Store.

TVS SmartXonnect comprises digital speedometer, which offers about 55 features including navigation assist, top speed recorder, in-built lap-timer, phone-battery strength display, last parked location assist, service reminder, trip meter and multi-ride statistic modes such as Street and Sport. KN Radhakrishnan, President and Chief Executive Officer, said the company was targeting to sell about two lakh units of the new scooter as it believed that Ntorq’s aspirational design and features would attract young buyers.

The company has spent about ₹100 crore in developing the Ntorq 125 and creating capacity at the plant.

To a question, he said that scooterisation was happening at a faster pace in the country and the segment was expected to maintain its growth momentum. “We expect Ntorq 125 to attract buyers in semi-urban and rural areas too,” he said.

TVS Motor Company had a market share of 16 per cent in the scooters segment during the nine-month period of this fiscal, up from 14 per cent in a year-ago period. It is the second big player in the scooter market after Honda.
