TVS Motor Company has launched an all-new model under its Apache range – Apache RTR 160 4V – at a starting price of ₹81,490 (ex-showroom, New Delhi for the carburettor variant).

The launch, positioned as in entry category in high-end bikes, is expected to strengthen the premium Apache brand.

The new RTR 160 4V, which is described as the most powerful 160-cc bike, will also be available in fuel injection variant at a price of ₹89,990.

The new bike will churn out 16.8 PS @8000 rpm and 14.8 Nm @ 6500 rpm (fuel injection model) and 16.5 PS @8000 rpm and 14.8 Nm @ 6500 rpm (carburettor version).

It will boast of a top speed of 114 kmph and acceleration from 0 to 60 kmph in 4.8 seconds and 4.73 seconds (carburettor version).

This is the third launch after RR 310 and RTR 4V Race Edition 2.0 under Apache series in the last four months.

The leading two- and three-wheeler maker has been maintaining a growth of 28 per cent against the industry growth of 10 per cent in the high-end bike segment. “Today, one out of four bikes sold is from the premium segment. With Apache, we have become the second largest brand in the sports category,” said Arun Siddharth, Vice-President (Marketing) – Premium Two Wheelers, International Business & TVS Racing.

TVS Motor has chalked out a two-pronged strategy to make its presence felt in the premium bike market. It will position its Apache bikes under naked and super sports categories. While Apache RTR series – 160, 180, 200 4V will be positioned under naked (without fairings) categories, the super premium bike RR 310 will be positioned under the super sports category.

“Apache has acquired substantial mindshare both in India and abroad and it is fast-becoming as the most-loved brand among race enthusiasts. We are aiming total sales of about five lakh units through Apache range of bikes this fiscal,” said K N Radhakrishnan, President and Chief Executive Officer.

During April 2017-January 2018 period, the company had sold about 3.2 lakh units under its Apache series.
