The Gem and Jewellery Skill Council of India , formed by four industry bodies and the Government, has zeroed in on two candidates to represent the country in WorldSkills 2013, the largest global vocational skills competition. The event will be held in Leipzig (Germany), in July.

About 17 participants competed recently against each other in Mumbai to qualify for the WorldSkills competition. Suhali Jain from Delhi and Bhabesh Chandra Jana from Bangalore were identified as the winners. The duo will now undergo intense training under the best craftsmen in the industry till December. At that point, another competition will be conducted between Jain and Jana to select the finalist for the competition.

Dharmesh Sodah, CEO of the Skill Council said identifying the right talent in the age group below 22 years was an important criterion to qualify for the competition .

The gems skill body was mandated by the National Skill Development Council to identify contestants from the gems and jewellery sector for the global event.
