The first Washington DC South Asian Film Festival (DCSAFF) will begin on June 1 at Rockville, Maryland, a 40-minute drive from downtown Washington. The festival will kick off with Shyam Benegal's film Mammo

The three-day event will continue throughout the weekend. It will also feature Deepti Naval's directorial debut Do Paise ki Dhoop , Chaar Aane ki Baarish .

Sponsored by production house Ceasar Productions, which is into theatre, films, TV, and radio programmes, DCSAFF has unveiled its final schedule.

The feature films will include Sanjoy Nag's Memories in March (Hindi), Aditi Roy's Abosheshey (Bengali), Italo Spinelli' s Gangor (Bengali), Ketan Mehta's Rang Rasiya (Hindi and English), Ananth Narayan Mahadevan's Mee Sindhutai Sapkal (Marathi), Prashant Nair's Delhi in a day (Hindi and English), Avie Luthra's Lucky (Tamil and Zulu), and Ajay Naidu's Ashes (English).

Short films and documentaries section will have Hotel New York , directed by Shome Banerjee, Harpreet Kaur's A little Revolution, and Suneeta Mishra directed Tinka Tinka.

The opening session will be addressed by the Ambassador of India to the US, Ms Nirupama Rao.

According to the organisers, it will also feature a Q&A session with Shyam Benegal before the screening of the film.

Benegal will conduct a workshop on film making, on craft and narrative, in film and video productions, including documentaries, feature films and television. Rajit Kapur, the actor who won National Best Actor Award for Making of Mahatma will hold another workshop on acting in theatre and films.

In a book reading session, Deepti Naval will read out from her newly released book The Mad Tibetan (a collection of short stories) and her other books Black Wind and Lamha Lamha (both are collections of poems).

The festival will down the curtains with Dev Anand starring Hum Dono .
