The Regional Passport Office here has taken an initiative to further smoothen passport application process for certain categories of applicants.
Central and State government employees, senior citizens, minors and the physically challenged in Andhra Pradesh seeking passports now need not have to depend on middlemen for booking on-line slot for submission of applications.
Instead, these categories of applicants can book a slot at their nearest eSeva centres in the State from August 1. This is also expected to ease pressure on on-line appointments.
These applicants can directly walk into the Passport Seva Kendras and submit their forms, with the application reference number given at the eSeva centres.
Applicants seeking police clearance certificates or seeking new booklets in case of exhaustion of visa pages are also eligible to apply through this route.
Mr K. Srikar Reddy, Regional Passport Officer, said all the pending cases of 2010 and 2011 have been closed and letters were already sent to applicants concerned. Passports will be issued free of cost in cases where the application date is after July 1, 2011, but applicants have to apply again, he said.
