Mr Kambel Shullai, a school drop out who went on to bag the National Innovator award for inventing an eco-friendly crematorium, has passed away, family sources said today.

Mr Shullai, 73, died at the North East Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences here after a prolonged illness on Saturday.

He is survived by his wife and daughter.

The low cost environment-friendly crematorium designed by Mr Shullai is a long structure which is open at one end and connected to a 36 feet high chimney at the other end, official sources said.
