An opportunity to get up close and personal with your city is the pitch employed by thoroughbred Chennaiites as they soak in the spirit of celebrating 375 years since the founding of Madras, or Chennai, as it is known today.
The various activities planned as part of the Madras Week revelries (August 17-24), include everything from art, photo and handicrafts exhibitions to film screenings, poetry, music, local food trails, culinary demonstrations, heritage, nature and photo walks and even bike tours to name a few. For those who love the great outdoors, it seems like the perfect excuse to throw in that DSLR in a knapsack and head straight for a trip down memory lane.
Or how about a boat trip on a sunny morning, navigating the waters of the Bay of Bengal, while immersing oneself in a bit of history? That’s what sailing aficionados can look forward to.
Dipankar Ghosh, who is at the helm of Adventure ‘n’ Nature, an outfit that promises exactly those two things tells us, “We are arranging sail boat trips off the southern bank of the Adyar River for sailing enthusiasts. You can bask in Madras’ nostalgia, while indulging in some fishing.”
