The much-awaited Hollywood superhero flick, Avengers: Endgame hit the screens on Friday with a bang and trade analysts believe that it will set new records. According to industry insiders, the film could rake in ₹350-400 crore overall at the Indian box office in the next few weeks.

The 22nd film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe has already set a new record in terms of advance booking. Trade analysts believe it could set a new record for the opening-day collections for a Hollywood film at the Indian box office.

Komal Nahta, a trade analyst, said: “The response from the fans indicates that India is a single market and receptive to good content, whether it’s from Bollywood or Hollywood. The Hollywood film is expected to become one of the biggest blockbusters in India ever.”

₹50 cr likely on opening day

He said the film is expected to easily rake in more than ₹50 crore in terms of opening-day collections. Trade analysts believe it could even surpass the first-day collections witnessed by Robot 2.0 (₹54 crore) and Thugs of Hindostan (₹52.25 crore).

According to analysts, the movie has been released in more than 2,800 screens in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu in the country.

PV Sunil, MD, Carnival Cinemas, said: “For the first time in the history of Indian cinema, a Hollywood sequel is surpassing all the previous records. In some markets, shows are scheduled as late as 3:20 am or as early as 5 am. We have over 1,200 shows daily.”

He said that Avengers: Endgame in Hindi is seeing very strong occupancies in tier-2 and tier-3 cities. “Take for instance cities like Mandsaur and Neemuch in Madhya Pradesh. The 8 am shows were almost full. We have already sold over 80 per cent tickets for Saturday and Sunday in advance. We are adding more early morning and late night shows to meet the demand. The film is expected to cross ₹160 crore in the first three days in India,” Sunil added.

‘A new benchmark’

Added Kamal Gianchandani, CEO, PVR Pictures: “In line with the advance-booking trends, we have sold out shows for the weekend. The film is playing at 90 per cent plus occupancy levels across our cinemas on Friday.”

Online ticketing platform Bookmyshow said the film has shattered all records for the highest number of advance tickets sold for a Hollywood film (on the platform) and is on its way to hit the 4-million mark on the first day of its release.
