Culinary expert Karen Anand recently organised an evening at Kue Bar, a trendy lounge bar at The Westin, Pune, that derives its name from the warmth and passion for life associated with Cuban and Latino culture.
Right at the entrance is a wall of Latino pop art depicting the high-octane life of Cuba. This ushers you into a vibrant open-to-air space where suspended from the high ceiling and on the tables are engagingly fluorescent crush-glass cubical lights that change colour every now and then. The bar with gold-tinted mirrors presents a mix of luxury cocktails and boutique spirits, while the culinary theatre has the chefs inviting you on a journey to Latino cuisine.
Further on is the indoor lounge with an island bar, where a mixologist puts up live entertainment including fire acts.
Much recommended signature cocktails include the ‘Flaming range': Flying Vixen, Flaming Venom, Absinthe Fountain, Venga Girls, Kuebano and Hemingway. Nibbles range from char-grilled seafood skewers drizzled with herb oil to a selection of Pico de Gallo, beer-drunken prawns with cherry tomatoes and avocado.
