The Ministry of Tourism said that the foreign exchange earnings from tourism in January 2013 grew 20.6 per cent over January 2012.

The earnings stood at Rs 10,398 crore compared with Rs 8,623 crore earned in the same month previous year.

According to the data revealed by the Tourism Ministry, the monthly growth rate was higher last January.

“The growth rate in foreign exchange earnings in rupee terms in January 2013 over January 2012 was 20.6 per cent compared with 49.3 per cent in January 2012 over January 2011,” it said in a statement.

Foreign tourist arrivals stood at 6.99 lakh in January 2013 compared with 6.81 lakh during the same month previous year.
