With the golden jubilee edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) slated to be held later this year, India is seeking stronger participation from international film-makers.

The Information and Broadcasting Ministry, in collaboration with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), is participating in the ongoing Berlin International Film Festival with the aim to promote IFFI’s golden jubilee edition.

The delegation is also focussing on promoting Indian films and forging international partnerships for production and distribution and for promotion of India as a filming destination, an official statement added.

The Indian delegation has met with over half a dozen film festival heads and other key senior executives of the film industry at Berlinale 2019. They includes Nadia Dresti, Deputy Artistic Director and Head of Locarno Film Festival; Pascal Diot, Head of Venice Production Bridge, Venice International Film Festival; and Maud Amson, Head of Sales and Operations, Marche Du Film, Cannes Film Festival.

The delegation also met with officials from the New Zealand Film Commission, Edinburgh International Film Festival, and China Children’s Film Association, besides officials from France, Italy, Japan, Israel, Switzerland and Greece.

“International film festivals and commissions expressing their desire for possible collaborations with India and IFFI 2019 signifies the attractive growth opportunities for the media and entertainment industry besides the potential for India to emerge as a key filming destination,” the statement added.
