Kerala Tourism has launched mobile-based and IT-enabled services to further enhance the travel experience of visitors to God’s Own Country.

The Tourism Minister, Mr A.P. Anil Kumar, launched the products at a function here on Tuesday.

MOBILE WEB SITE

They include a mobile version of the Web site, a WAP guide, applications for Android and iOS operating systems and Bluetooth kiosks.

“Kerala is the first state to adopt such mobile-based services for the benefit of the tourism industry,” the Minister said.

These products have been designed with a view to assisting travellers to explore destinations by themselves.

The WAP site will provide all facilities currently available for the sate tourism website to those who are connected through their smart phones.

The guide seeks to replace conventional tourist guides, and is expected to save money for tourists as well as ease communications.

MOBILE APPS

The two mobile apps cater to the needs of iOS and Android, currently the most sought after mobile operating systems.

They offer innovatively useful facilities such as ‘What’s near me’ or ‘Around me.’ The smart phone identifies the location and shows the tourists things around.

Features such as ‘Places of Interest’ or ‘Tourist Guide’ introduce interesting travel spots within the state. There is a tour planner too. A travel plan is being prepared exclusively for the tourists, based on timings, locations and interests.

Another feature is the continuous tourism updates in line with those on the tourism website and events.

SHARE OPTION

There is also ‘share’ option where the traveller can share pictures and messages with the dear ones in real time.

To be set up at key places like the international airports, Bluetooth kiosks will provide comprehensive information about the state and its tourism products.

The ‘Kerala Tourism’ website attracts 7,000-8,000 visits per day and more than 2.5 million a year.

It is also active on social media like YouTube with three million video views a year; it has 1.76 lakh fans on FaceBook and 9,500 followers on Twitter.
