Did you know that under Vedic astrology, each of the nine planets corresponds to different lines of business? For example, Saturn governs industry related to metals and oils. Venus corresponds to finer components such as electronic chip designing. Jupiter corresponds to education, HR, research institutes and so on.

T.V.R.K. Murthy has designed over 4,000 corporate logos based on Vedic astrology which, he says, have positively impacted the growth and fortunes of these companies.

The Coromandel Cements, Hyderabad; Sabari group of Chennai, Ductron Pipes, Mumbai; Mudra Designs, Ahmedabad; Clarion Technologies, Pune; Digital Corporation and US; Subh Impex of Dubai are among the business names that have adopted Murthy's Vedic logos.

“I have immense satisfaction in this work because I constantly get feedback from the promoters, who have seen their fortunes grow and have come back with repeat requests whenever they ventured into a new entity,” says Murthy, who recently held an exhibition of his logos in Hyderabad.

Also known as Viswapathi, under which name he has published cartoons in newspapers, Murthy is a postgraduate in electrical engineering. He began designing logos as a hobby in 1993.

“I have done a comprehensive study of the birth details of some prominent businessmen and correlated them with the businesses they were doing, the brand names they had and the logos they were using. It gave me an amazing insight. And that got me started on Vedic logo designing,” he says.

He was working at Allwyn Watches before moving to teach at an engineering college. “I was into part-time designing, but soon found there was a growing demand from corporates and organisations for the logos I was designing. So I gave up my teaching job in 1998 and became a full-fledged designer,” says Murthy, whose company is called Shri Designs.

The design studio was launched online in 1999. “A logo is not just another graphic design. It can make or break a company,” says Murthy. He usually takes about a week to design each logo. He gives clients three best options, but “in fact, many ask for only one design. It shows their faith in my system. I have not met many of my clients either,” he says.

He selects the patterns and colours for the logo after studying the birth details of the promoters.

The planets are also associated with specific geometric shapes and colours. Blue, for example, is associated with Saturn while red is for Mars. “Blue represents finance function. No wonder we observe that logos of many financial institutions worldwide have blue in them,” he says.

A logo design based on these principles promotes the smooth running of the business, he says, adding that in some cases companies have even made a turnaround and pulled out of the red.
