Lonely Planet is making its entry into the Indian market with the launch of ‘Lonely Planet for the Indian Traveller’.
A first of its kind product for the Indian market, Lonely Planet’s first locally produced outbound travel guides have been customised as per the Indian travellers’ needs and sensibilities.
The collection consists of travel guides for 10 outbound destinations namely Singapore, Thailand, Hong Kong, Dubai, Bhutan, China, Great Britain, London, France and Italy. ‘Lonely Planet for the Indian Traveller’ guides have been anchored by Indian authors living in respective countries, sensitive to the Indian traveller’s needs.
Re-counting his experience of founding the world’s most trusted travel content provider, Tony Wheeler, Co-Founder of Lonely Planet, said: “In 1972, Maureen (Wheeler) and I started off this journey with only a beat up old car, a few dollars in the pocket and a sense of adventure resulting in our first book Across Asia on the Cheap. Today, one hundred million travel guides later, Lonely Planet has over 500 titles available in nine languages.”
Heading the Lonely Planet operations in India, Sesh Seshadri, General Manager of Lonely Planet India, said, “Indian travellers have different needs and interests while travelling abroad, and previously haven’t been catered to extensively in the Indian publishing market. Lonely Planet is the first to introduce travel guides customised as per the Indian traveller’s sensibilities. Safety and security concerns, recommended safe and clean accommodation, itineraries providing value for money and more; the travel guide series has everything an Indian traveller is looking out for at an affordable price.”
While the imported series (international versions) has a blue colour spine, this locally produced series by Lonely Planet has a yellow colour spine for customers to easily differentiate between the products in-store.
‘Lonely Planet for the Indian Traveller’ guides range from Rs 495 to Rs 595 depending upon the destination and are available across all leading bookstores in India. Lonely Planet India is also offering its travel expertise via its new website www.lonelyplanet.in and social media pages of Facebook and Twitter.
