Even as the United States has deployed 12 fighter aircraft, F-15C Eagles, and around 350 airmen to Iceland’s Keflavik International Airport, an official of the country’s main airline, Icelandair, insists Iceland has repeatedly clocked in as the most peaceful nation in the world.
According to non-profit Institute for Economics and Peace, Iceland, the thinly populated island in the midst of the North Atlantic, retained its place as the most peaceful country in the world. The Global Peace Index had ranked India a lowly 143.
“The most danger travellers experience in Iceland is from tackling the harsh weather,” Arsaell Hardarson, GSA, Icelandair, states, adding that with news of terrorism from all over the globe, travellers are increasingly looking out for safe destinations.
Speaking to BusinessLine at a ‘Promote Iceland’ event in Mumbai recently, Hardarson said Icelandair’s business strategy is based on the geographical position of Iceland, midway between North Europe and the eastern coast of the US.
