Setting a world record is no small deal. And for a mithai company to get there could be a bigger challenge.

But this is exactly what Coimbatore-based Sri Krishna Sweets did on September 20, 2016.

Observing its Founder's Day (September 20) as “Mysurpa Day”, that day this year turned out to be the most memorable day for team Sri Krishna Sweets.

There were no loud announcements, but the queue outside each of its outlet spoke volumes. People lined up from around 3 pm to get a packet of Mysurpa as the offer price that day was slashed 100 per cent. The sale commenced at 6 pm sharp across all its 40+ outlets both within the city and outside.

The sweets major prepared 13188.296 kilograms of Mysurpa and sold it to 26,720 customers in just 3 hours.

Company sources told BusinessLine that this feat was accomplished only by “Word of Mouth”, “sans mass media”.

And no sooner had they accomplished the company applied for world record recognition.

Unique World Records represented by its Editor Sababi Mangal, adjudicator for Elite World Record – Karthikeyan Jawahar, A K Senthil Kumar representing Asian Records Academy, P Jeganathan, Records Manager at India Records Academy, and L Raj Krishna, Records Manager, Tamilan Book of Records – were here last week to check the records before certifying Sri Krishna Sweets for the World Record.

The adjudicators, after almost 12 hours scrutiny of the records, said that the company deserved the recognition.

And now, Mysurpa is to Sri Krishna Sweets as one would associate Halwa to Tirunelveli or Murukku to Manaparai.

The only difference in the case of Mysurpa is that the place (Coimbatore) is not associated with the sweet, but the mithai shop which took it to this level.
