Peak summer might still be a month away, but those on the lookout for a quick getaway can look forward to the upcoming long weekend.

A number of people are looking to club the Mahavir Jayanti (on Wednesday) and Good Friday holidays with the weekend, leading to a surge in travel enquiries.

Special packages

“There has been a rise of 25 per cent in travel enquiries for the duration and hotel bookings are going up by 30 per cent compared with the same period last year,” said Karan Anand, Head, Relationships, Cox & Kings.

Hill stations such as Manali, Shimla, Auli, Ladakh, Gangtok and Darjeeling remain popular as ever. Countries close by, such as Singapore, Thailand and Malaysia, are the favourite overseas destinations.

Cox & Kings said it has come up with special packages — some customised — for places such as Nainital, Srinagar and Haridwar. The domestic packages are priced from ₹10,000 to ₹20,000 per person for a three-night/four-day stay.

“This is the first long weekend to fall after the exams, which is making it even more popular among families,” said Sharat Dhall, COO (B2C), Yatra.com.

Travel and tour companies are also trying to cash in on World Heritage Day, which falls on April 18. “We are offering heritage tours to well-known destinations across India. This year, we are planning excursions to Unesco heritage sites such as the Taj Mahal, Khajuraho temple, Hampi, Elephanta, Bodh Gaya and the Red Fort,” said Heena Akhtar, co-founder, tripXOXO.
