Work on the second line of Ahmedabad Metro rail project of North-South Corridor kick-started on Sunday. The Chief Minister, Anandiben Patel, performed the ground breaking for the project here.
The cost of completion for the second line is estimated to be around Rs 4,500 crore.
Managing Director of MEGA Company Ltd I P Gautam informed that the work on 19-km line connecting APMC (Vishala circle) to Motera will be completed in less than three years. Line-2 will have 15 elevated stations along the route.
Work on Line-2 started within nine months of the launch of Line-1 of the East-West Corridor last year.
The Chief Minister further stated that the State Government is proactive on the project and with the support of the Central Government under the leadership of Narendra Modi, all the developmental projects, including metro rail, will be completed within the time limit.
Patel also announced that a metro rail service will be launched in Surat city. Planning for the same is underway.
She also announced that the Metro will soon connect Gandhinagar in the second phase of the project for which initial preparation has been started. The State Government has recently given its consent for the preparation of the detailed project report (DPR) for Gandhinagar connectivity.
