Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in association with CIFTI-FICCI and FSSAI, New Delhi, organised an interactive workshop on ‘Harmonisation of India’s food standards with CODEX standards and other international best practices’.

The workshop was attended by more than 80 delegates representing various industry segments including Seafood Exporters Association, Spices Board, Export Inspection Agency, etc.

The objective of the workshop was not only to create awareness on the concept of harmonisation but also to encourage industry experts to volunteer working with FSSAI in drafting national food safety standards.

P Karthikeyan, Asst Director, Quality Assurance, Food Safety Authority, New Delhi and Padmaparna Dasgupta, director, CIFTI- FICCI and regulatory head, Glaxo Smithkline, New Delhi, led the discussions.

They emphasised the participation of all stakeholders in making the standards for various items and requested voluntary nominations to the working group being set up by FSSAI. The final adoption of standards is expected in December 2014.

Nishesh Shah, President, ICCI welcomed the gathering, S Ramakrishnan, Secretary, ICCI summed up the proceedings and Monika Rawat, assistant director, FICCI proposed a vote of thanks.
