Swiss hotels are keen to please Indian travellers.
Be it hiring Indian cooks to dish out Indian fare during the peak holiday season (April to June) or reserving special shrine space for Indians to pray in groups, Swiss hotels are going the extra mile to cater to the unique Indian needs, said Linus von Castelmur, Ambassador of Switzerland to India.
The Swiss have built an efficient railway system over picturesque routes which the Indians love.
“Indians are also fond of trains – it is a great way to experience the country.”
Swiss locales are a favourite among Indian movie directors. In fact, tour operators even offer movie-centric packages which take tourists to places where Bollywood movies have been shot.
“This trend still continues. We often find tourists wishing to see the places where famous Bollywood stars had their first kiss or fell in love,” said the Ambassador.
Switzerland is a favourite holiday destination among the younger generation and elite Indians, said Castelmur.
Last year, 460,000 tourists from India visited Switzerland. The reverse is also happening with many tourists from Switzerland touring India.
“The potential is much higher. Strangely, though there is no political issue between the two countries, it is difficult or takes time for Swiss citizens to get visas to India,” he said.
