A southern California woman has the dubious distinction of being the first driver cited for wearing Google Glass smartglasses while operating a vehicle.

The tiny devices look like a pair of glasses but feature an internet connection and a translucent display in front of a wearer’s right eye on which information is displayed.

In a post Thursday to Google +, Cecelia Abadie posted a picture of a citation she received in San Diego in which her infraction was listed as “driving with monitor visible to driver (Google Glass).”

“A cop just stopped me and gave me a ticket for wearing Google Glass while driving! ... Is Google Glass illegal while driving or is this cop wrong??? Any legal advice is appreciated.”

Over 500 people reacted to her post with many urging her to fight the ticket in court. But according to a report in the Los Angeles Times, police said that the California law under which she was cited forbids the placement of a television or video screen anywhere that is visible to the driver.
