Caparo Group founded by leading NRI industrialist Lord Swraj Paul has won the International Business of the Year award 2014 at the Asian Business Awards Midlands in Birmingham.
Receiving the award on behalf of the company last evening, Lord Paul’s daughter Anjli Paul dedicated it to her younger sister Ambika.
“The family and I would like to dedicate this award to my younger sister, Ambika, sadly no longer with us, but without whom there would not have been a Caparo company. We would all like to remember Ambika on this occasion and thank you sincerely for the award,” Anjli had said last evening.
Lord Paul arrived in London in 1966 in search of a cure for his fourth child Ambika, who was suffering from leukaemia.
As he emerged from the trauma of her death, Lord Paul set up Caparo, which is today the largest family-owned business in Britain.
At the outset, Anjli said: “I am honoured to accept the award for International Business of the Year on behalf of the Paul family and the wider Caparo family. We very much appreciate the recognition of the manufacturing industry.
“My father, on being told of the nomination, had requested that rather than the award going to Caparo, it should instead be given to one of the newer companies headed by the younger generation because we need to encourage our young entrepreneurs in their business endeavours.”
