Emirates Airline has ordered 150 777-X jets, manufacturer Boeing said on Wednesday.
The order calls for 115 777-9X jets, 35 777-8X jets and purchase rights for an additional 50 aircraft, which could increase the value of the deal from about $56 billion to $75 billion at list prices, the statement said.
In June, Emirates cancelled an order for 70 of Airbus’s A350 wide-bodied aircraft.
The 777-X airliners are mounted with advanced commercial engines and new, high-efficiency composite wings with longer spans than current 777 jets.
“We are extremely proud to have Emirates, the world’s largest 777 operator, continue its long-standing partnership with Boeing by becoming the largest launch customer for the 777X,” Boeing Commercial Airplanes president and chief executive Ray Conner said.
The 777-X is more fuel-efficient than any competing airplane, Boeing said.
